Leading the Field of Optometry

Optometrist Dr. Seema Mohanan at Optics&EYECARE in Ashburn, VA, leads in the field of optometry with advanced technology and methods. She provides comprehensive eye exams for both eyeglasses and contact lenses. In addition, she also provides treatment for glaucoma and cataracts.

With a comprehensive vision exam by Dr. Mohanan, she can determine if you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. Once your level of vision has been determined, she will let you know all of your alternatives to correct any existing refractive problems. She can also uncover any abnormalities within your eye structure and identify the onset of cataracts and glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a progressive disease and often starts out with no noticeable symptoms. You may experience a 40 percent loss in vision before you are even aware that you have a visual problem. The treatment for glaucoma varies depending on its severity. Without treatment, glaucoma can cause permanent blindness. Glaucoma can be caused by an eye infection or increased pressure in the eye. Depending on the stage of glaucoma, Dr. Mohanan may prescribe eye drops to reduce the formation of eye fluid. Another option is laser surgery. During laser surgery for glaucoma, Dr. Mohanan makes a tiny incision to allow the eye fluid to flow more freely and reduce eye pressure. Dr. Mohanan also treats cataracts using the phacoemulsification technique. A topical anesthetic is applied and a tiny incision is made to remove the material that is clouding the vision.
